Stumbled Right Through All 23 Things

Well, here we are at the final blog post of the training. It was hard to always find time to do the 23 Things, but no question that we all learned a lot.

I didn't know the existence of StumbleUpon, and Scoop. It, and I am not sure if I would continue using these. I just don't have the time in my everyday life. I also got the opportunity to delve into Twitter, Ted Talks, Pinterest, and the whole world of Apps.

I don't think these will be of much use to me at work, perhaps Pinterest for ideas for crafts for kids.. the rest I'm not so sure about. the thing that I will use the most at work is probably the photo information about copyrights and all that.

My favorite things were the Apps and the Wordl (even though this was one of the toughest). I was most surprised at how much trouble I had getting used to my Tablet!! What a learning curve there!

I have to say that I looked forward to doing the 23 Things each week, but I wish we had more time to really understand some of the information. Thanks for the training!!

Apps and more apps! Yes, there is an app for that!

Oddly enough, I got my first tablet -- an Android Proscan -- last weekend in Moncton. I was lost! There is quite a learning curve to switching from a laptop or desktop to a tablet... Nothing was loading, it was frustrating.. why couldn't I find anything?? What I was missing were the apps! I am starting to slowly get the hang of it, but I did order a few library books to help me along.

So, I inadvertantly did a few of the "Things" early this week. I had tried on the weekend to download some eBooks from our catalogue. Why wasn't it working?? I finally managed to install OverDrive after coming in to the library on Tuesday to peruse the tip sheets.. So I needed the app!! Yes, Diane, there is an app for that!!

Finally able to download and read eBooks on my tablet, I found I was not very interested, was it the font? the topic? the page layout? I find myself scanning the pages, mostly speed reading.. I got carried away and downloaded 4 books! Then I realized my default setting was for only one week! I never did have time to finish them, speed-reading or not..

The thing I found most frustrating with my Electronic Library experience, was that to get help with the tip sheet, I would have needed the app, but since I didn't know I needed the app, I couldn't get the help I needed.. I guess that is why we still need real live librarians and libraries!!

Sharing, scooping and more tweeting

The information super-highway is getting a little easier to navigate with all our new tools under our belt.. Some of us never even knew this existed!

I don't feel I will have time to Tweet and Scoop and Pin and all this in my own life, but it is good to know it is there, especially when people ask questions at the library. Information is power!

I was excited to find Canada Reads on the Scoop.it site, and have embedded the video here of my favorite moment from episode 1, 2014. Well, I guess not really embedded.. just linked

Thanks for "sharing"! :)

PS.. I created a Wordle last week about the activities going on in Bathurst during the March Break. I uploaded it to our library's facebook page :)
